Like a cup of strong, black coffee, Lucifer’s Cuvée smells of espresso, with an underpinning of chocolaty molasses sweetness. With its whopping 8.4 percent ABV, devilish name, dark color and strong nose, we expected this one to knock us over. However, the perfect balance of bitter and sweet made this stout far lighter and more drinkable than expected. There’s a touch of char on the chocolate, further offsetting the sweet. A warming finish and bit of bite make this brew perfect for dessert – and a keeper on cold autumn nights.
