Adams Reserve Cheddar & Black Bean “Burger”

Prep time: 20 minutes. Cook time: 20 minutes.
Yields 4 to 6ea burgers, depending on desired size

2 cans Black Beans, drained
1C Panko Bread Crumbs
1 Egg
1T Fresh Garlic, fine chopped
¼C Onion, fine diced
1T Extra Virgin Olive Oil
½t Dark Chili Powder
2T Fresh Cilantro, chopped
½t Kosher Salt
½t Fresh Ground Black Pepper
¾C Adams Reserve Cheddar, grated
6 Adams Reserve Cheddar, sliced

In a sauté pan over medium-high heat, sauté the onions, garlic and chili powder in the olive oil for about 2 minutes or until the onions turn translucent. Transfer the onion mix to a bowl. Add in the remaining ingredients, except the cheddar. Mash everything together with a potato masher or the back of a fork until the beans have broken down but still has a few whole beans in the mix. Fold in the cheddar, cover the mixture and refrigerate for 20 minutes.

Form into “burgers” and sauté them in a little oil or butter. Be sure the inside of the patties gets above 165°F to be sure the egg has fully cooked. Top with a slice of cheddar and serve while still warm with your favorite bun, toppings and sauces, chipotle mayo would work great.
