Much to the delight of many, Bordeaux has produced very good wine in 2014 and it is considered the best vintage since 2010. Two thousand fourteen was one of the most dramatic growing seasons ever witnessed in Bordeaux. It began well, with a swift flowering followed by a relatively cool summer that slowed the ripening. Warm, dry conditions arrived with a vengeance in September and saved the harvest. By all accounts, it was one of the warmest and driest Septembers ever recorded. One of the hallmarks of 2014 is very long hang time, which in the finest wines manifests itself in very silky, polished tannins.
The 2014s are generally mid-weight wines with expressive aromatics, medium-bodied structures and finessed, silky tannins. The best 2014s will be characterized by elegance and freshness as opposed to power. They are not lacking in concentration or depth, but they will need time to be at their best. These are the kind of wines that often start out slow and then gain in the bottle. A very consumer friendly year, the 2014 vintage offers an opportunity to pick up any number of gorgeous wines at fair prices. It is an ideal vintage for consumers who buy wines to actually drink them.
Our friends from Heidelberg will join us to show you these beautiful wines. You will have the opportunity to sample wines from various producers and appellations within the left and right banks of Bordeaux. This will be a “walk-about” style tasting so you can taste at your own pace and learn from knowledgeable people at each table. Cheeses, meats, breads and other goodies will be served to complement the wines. Reservations are required so please call 440-498-9463, stop in the store or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
